35 E. 76th Street at Madison Avenue New York NY 10021 212 744 1600 telephone www.thecarlyle.com "Home to princes, presidents and New Yorkers alike, The Carlyle, a Rosewood Hotel, has been a Manhattan institution for 75 years. With its spectacular Central Park views and prime Madison Avenue location, this quintessential New York hotel is as much a landmark for its distinguished guests and celebrated entertainers as it is for its timeless style and old-world charm. A legend in its own right, The Carlyle is glorious proof that one need not be a Manhattan resident to feel like one." Remembering My Grandfather from New York City
In 2007 Tim collaborated with William Rhodes IV C.W.E., wine director for The Carlyle Hotel in New York City on the hotel's first private label wine. Over the course of three months Tim and William created "The Carlyle Wine" (a 100% Syrah from the 2004 vintage) with the approval of Mr. James McBride, managing director for The Carlyle Hotel, and Mr. Carlos Salazar, food and beverage director for The Carlyle Hotel. For Tim it is a huge honor to have his handmade wines associated with such a classic hotel. It also marks the first time Clos Mimi has bottled a wine exclusively for a hotel, restaurant or sommelier.
2004 Clos Mimi "The Carlyle Hotel" Paso Robles Syrah Priced at $90 per 750-milliliter bottle, The Carlyle Wine is available exclusively in each of the hotel's 180 guest rooms and suites as well as on the wine lists for each restaurant at The Carlyle Hotel: "A social bastion of good taste for both the eyes and the palate. Exceptional French fare, exquisite wines, discreet service and polished luxury keep this highly acclaimed restaurant abuzz morning through night. Should a private celebration be in order, The Dining Room also features a private room for such affairs." "It is plain to see why Bemelmans is like no other bar in the world. Whimsical murals by famed Madeline creator Ludwig Bemelmans set the tone for timeless libations and nightly piano music." "Home to the legendary Bobby Short for over 35 years. Intimate and urbane---with a star-studded line-up that has included Barbara Cook, Eartha Kitt and Elaine Stritch performing the celebrated songs of Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, and Gershwin---Café Carlyle is a favorite of cabaret connoisseiurs and romantics alike." "Years ago two women coincidentally arrived at The Gallery at the same time, introduced themselves, and proceeded to sit for a chat. They were Jacqueline Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn. Today, this intimate, colorful space is still frequented for its light lunch menu and famous afternoon tea."
Speaking of Mrs. Kennedy, The Carlyle is personified by John F. Kennedy who owned a large private suite on the 34th floor from 1953 to 1963. In fact according to Michael O'Connell (a retired Captain of the Bellmen) President Kennedy stayed at The Carlyle the night before his assassination in Dallas. Jackie Kennedy returned to The Carlyle after the assassination and raised John Jr. and Caroline in the JFK apartment for two years. Other famous royals to call The Carlyle home when visiting New York were Princess Diana of Wales, Prince William and Prince Harry. Clos Mimi is the first California Syrah producer to cobrand a wine with The Carlyle Hotel.
